apartment herb garden

growing your own herbs is a super simple, rewarding hobby. it is a great alternative to gardening if you have limited space like me. you can easily pop a long box in a windowsill and watch the little sprouts grow into something beautiful and delicious each day.

growing your own herbs is fun, convenient, cheaper than buying herbs in the grocery store and adds so much fresh flavor to home cooked meals!

what you need

  • a container

  • rocks (if the container does not have drainage)

  • organic soil

  • seeds of choice

  • water

  • patience

what to do

  • if your container has no drainage, fill the bottom with a layer of rock, then add soil until there is about 2 inches of space left. place your seeds along the top of the soil. add another layer of soil and press down. thats it!! you’ll need to water the herbs every few days, depending on the environment in your home. a good rule of thumb is to check the soil to see how moist it is. if it is wet, don’t water. if it is feeling a bit dry, your herbs are probably thirsty. some sprouts should pop up within a few days of planting, but they won’t be ready for harvest for a couple weeks. once they have grown, they are ready to be enjoyed :-)
