is alcohol ruining your fitness goals?

like many, I enjoy a nice cocktail or refreshing glass of wine.

however it’s important to realize that while having a drink or two may be fun, it’s hurting your body. this post serves to bring what it is and what it does to awareness.

in a world where alcohol is so glamorized, it’s important to remember that alcohol is a toxin. It is dangerous, bad for our bodies & our health & for those of us who do chose to indulge every now & then to be aware of what “moderate” intake really looks like as well as the effects drinking has on our bodies.

consuming alcohol on a regular basis can lead to unwanted health effects such as increased triglycerides, increased blood pressure, increased risk of cancers, higher feelings of anxiety and depression and even can lead to nutrient deficiencies. If you’re focusing on fitness related goals, keep in mind that alcohol inhibits muscle protein synthesis, causes dehydration and adds in additional calories to your diet which can make it more difficult to reach those fitness goals.

while yes, there are some benefits associated with some drinking, such as a glass of red wine for the antioxidants, this is achieved when done in moderation

now, you may be wondering - what does moderation look like?

for women, drinking in moderation is up to one drink a day. for men, it’s two. one drink is equivalent to 12oz beer, 5oz wine or 1.5 oz spirits.

so yes. you can fit alcohol into a balanced lifestyle, but when you’re trying to prioritize your heath, or achieve any type of fitness goals - it’s always best to avoid alcohol.

& remember, always drink responsibly 🫶🏽🥂
